There's farmyard fun for everyone at Park Hall Farm from lamb feeding to pig racing! Learn the work of a shepherd and his sheepdog at Adventure Mountain Ewe-Phoria or test your skills at off-road quad biking as well as many other indoor and outdoor activities. Discover an underwater world at Blue Planet aquarium at Ellesmere Port, ski and snowboard in Llandudno or go on the highest giant swing in Europe at one of three Zip Worlds in the area!
Renowned Walking Country
You will not find a more beautiful area of Britain than the tranquil and unspoilt Ceiriog Valley making the area in and around Glyn Ceiriog fantastic walking country. The area is steeped in history and natural wonders so there is plenty to discover from historical sites to waterfalls. Trails of varying difficulty take in fabulous views of the surrounding mountainous countryside throughout.
Interesting Sites
The surrounding area is home to some marvellous feats of engineering. Enjoy a canal boat trip across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, the longest and highest in the UK and marvel at the awe-inspiring canal architecture. The unique thrill of the Anderton Boat Lift is not to be missed - winner of ‘experience of the year 2019’. Discover the spectacular, dramatic and mysterious Oswestry Hill Fort -built and occupied during the Iron Age it is one of Britain’s oldest settlements and the best-preserved in the country.
Historic Houses and Castles
You will find some of the country’s most magnificent properties in the surrounding area. Closest to Plas Ceiriog is Chirk Castle, a medieval fortress that guards the entrance to the Ceiriog Valley, enjoy a walk around its 480 acres of ancient parkland. Explore the impressive stately home of Errdigg along with its pretty gardens. It houses over 30,000 individual items that were hoarded by its previous owners the second largest collection in the Natioal Trust. Take a riverside walk at Plas Newydd a lovely small stately home with superb gardens. Uncover the history and romantic folklore of Whittington Castle, community run hosting numerous events throughout the year.
Explore Local Towns
Over the hill you will find a host of amenities in picturesque Lllangollen. Enjoy a drink by the fast-following river Dee or take a trip on the steam railway. Shrewsbury is a large market town on the River Severn with a medieval town centre. It is the birthplace of Darwin and home to one of the most famous public schools in the country. Visit Welshpool to explore the splendid Powys Castle and its famous historic gardens. Chirk is the closest small town with an excellent choice of shops and amenities including a leisure centre, library and railway station. A great variety of shops can be found in Wrexham and the market on Mondays is the largest in North Wales.

North Wales has proven itself as a world class destination for food and drink and the Ceiriog Valley and surrounding area is of no exception - the eating-out scene in the area is certainly up and coming. Choose from cosy rustic pubs offering superb home-cooked traditional food to contemporary restaurants with modern cuisine and cosmopolitan atmosphere. The vast array of dining options will leave you spoilt for choice so you can enjoy a culinary break with delicious food and drink for all tastes and budgets.
Shopping for Food & Drink
The local area has a vast array of artisan food and drink producers and the region hosts some fantastic food festivals. There is a plethora of well stocked local shops and two of the best farm shops in North Wales close-by. This combined with an excellent well-equipped kitchen, grand dining room, BBQ and al fresco dining areas make self-catering at the lodge an excellent choice. You can even pick up a local trout on the way home at the Chirk Trout Farm and Smokery and look out for the cheddar matured in the depths of the Welsh slate mine - it is described as being a wonder of the world!
